Giovanni G. Carbonell
Founder / Chief Creative Director
____
Born on March 1st, 1988 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Puerto Rican parents. At the age of three, Giovanni moved to a modest neighborhood in Puerto Rico where diverse music and hefty murals dominated every corner. He started showing interest in the arts through elementary by drawing complex sketches in elementary school. His love for music also grew early on as he would get lost in the visuals of his parents’ favorite tunes.. Sade, Marc Anthony, Lauryn Hill, Draco Rosa and others would send him to places only he could dream up. Giovanni began attending talent shows and participating in drawing contests, also getting the “green light” from teachers to ditch class for credit on themed murals in classrooms and school corridors. It was clear, a career in the arts was in the horizon.
During and after going to college for Telecommunications and Film, Giovanni landed jobs in video direction, post-production, visuals arts and concert coverage using VR technology and HD/4k cameras. He went from creating school murals to collaborating artistically with artists like Daddy YankeeSteve AokiCalle 13Snoop DoggLa Fania and others. Giovanni was undoubtedly at ease wherever music and visual arts blended. In his early twenties, he worked for TV stations like Telemundo, Univision, WIPR PBS and Mega TV; and post-produced three Sprite commercials that landed on the big screen. In 2013, Giovanni also won an award for ‘Best Editing’ in the Alliance Française Film Festival (Hecho en Europa) for the short film ‘Metamorphosis'.
In 2014, the dire economic crisis in Puerto Rico caused media rates to drop and a steady income stream became difficult within the industry. Giovanni decided to roam as a freelancer in the New York and Boston areas. During the next five years, he worked and collaborated on projects for high profile brands like New Balance, Covergirl, Welch's, Lysol and others. Giovanni also worked at a full-service digital-first agency, Genuine. It was here he fine-tuned his skills as he grasped the inner workings of digital media within the corporate world.
Giovanni now lives in New York working as talent and director on various industries. He directs shoots for worldwide distributor Newell Brands (Mr. Coffee, Coleman, Graco) and spearheads post-production video work for more A-list latino artists. He has also worked as talent on movies West Side Story by Steven Spielberg and In the Heights by Lin Manuel Miranda. Giovanni expects to keep expanding his expertise through corporate entities and high profile brands in the entertainment industry. His natural ability to deliver on his customer’s needs is backed up by his solid attention to detail, coupled by a laser focus on consistent and unparalleled end results.
